EXCELLENT Based on 49 reviews Joe M2025-05-21Verified Great cruise around Galapagos but penny pinching on drinks and abnormal expectations on tipping were very disappointing My wife and I went on a 5 day cruise around the Galápagos Islands which included snorkeling land excursions and zodiac trips. Cruise and staff were excellent but the pace non stop which was challenging at times but did not detract from the trip. However, unlike other cruises, all guests were limited to one glass of wine or beer per day (all soft drinks and juices were complimentary). However, the wine was Limited to a glass of red only. White wine had to be paid for. The boat had 15 passengers so surely when the cost per passenger is around $A1,000 per day, it’s not too much to expect complimentary wine at lunch and dinner. Unnecessary penny pinching and the operators could learn a thing or 2 from Ponant cruises where all alcohol is included at all times of the day. Secondly, in the final debrief before leaving the cruise, a rate card was provided suggesting what I thought were excessive amounts of gratuities. Surely these are not necessary if the crew are paid properly on such expensive cruises. In addition there was no anonymity as cabin details were provided on the envelopes given to passengers for these tips. This what I would call brazen requests detracted from what was a wonderful experience around the Galapagos Islands. There are many operators in the area and it’s these little things that make a difference. FellowTraveler7012832024-12-06Verified Top Grade tour Superb guide Raul with very good English. Well scheduled and paced tours, avoided most of the large crowds. Comfortable clean vehicle. Raul has quite a complete knowledge of many different aspects of the city and country and does a good job sharing that. Carol H2024-11-30Verified Great opportunity to see the highlights of keto with a wonderful guide We had a great day seeing keto today and learning so much about the history of this area and the country. We would like to set up a tour for next Saturday, December 7 to go to the Mindo rainforest and would like to have Danny as our guide if that is possible. He adjusted his program to suit our requirements and gave great suggestions for things we could do ourselves the next day. Culture206350206782024-05-11Verified Traveling around Ecuador Ivan Tarapuez is a great English-speaking guide. We spent 4 days with him traveling around mainland Ecuador. It was a great pleasure to learn.Highly recommended. mommacatt2024-05-04Verified Galapagos in style This cruise ship is managed by Golden Galapagos. We did a 1 week tour of the Galapagos on this amazing little boat. We have never done a live aboard so it was all new. It was great being catered to by all of the crew members and they were respectful of all the guests. We were lucky to only have 10 passengers (there were more crew members - 12). They kept us busy every day, with 1-2 hikes a day (1-1/2 hrs long) and also 1-2 snorkel trips in full wetsuits every day (1-1/2 hrs long). We saw so many animals up close, including the penguins and seals who were curious and swam with us. The chef was amazing. Breakfast and lunch are buffet style and dinner is usually a choice of 2 entrees. Vegetarian choices were always available. The chef made us peanut butter and jelly sandwiches to take on the plane when we left because we had a 1 1/2 hour layover in Guayaquil where we couldn't disembark from the plane. Our private patio was so nice to be able to sit and enjoy the ocean all to yourself. They offered sea sick tablets every day for those who wanted them. We had no problems with sea sickness and sleeping was great-like a giant waterbed! We met some great people from all over the USA. Our cabin was so nice and roomy. We did some laundry and hung items outside on our patio (clothespins were provided) & in the shower. We were able to go ashore 2 days for about 2-3 hours and wander the small towns, shop and eat. Only complaint was that even though our guide was very informative and cordial, he would constantly get too far ahead of all of us (only 10 so really shouldn't have been an issue), whether walking or snorkeling, so any near the rear would sometimes miss certain info or viewings. Weather:
Quito and the Highlands: June to September is a dry season with daytime temperatures of around 21°C (70°F). Rainy season is from October to May with March/April being the wettest months. This usually means clear mornings and an afternoon heavy downpour, followed by the sun coming out again.
The Galapagos: In the Galapagos January to April are the warmer, wetter months. The islands are humid, and days can be hot, especially around noon. Temperatures range from 24°C-30°C (75°F-86°F) with daytime temperatures up to around 29°C (85°F) and the occasional shower. May to December are the drier, cooler months. This is the time of the year where wildlife is at its best, since most will be reproducing. The air temperature ranges from 23°C-28°C (73°F-82°F) with July to September normally experiencing more choppy and windy sea conditions.
Guayaquil and the Coast: The coastal lowlands are tropical, warm all year. From May to December is a dry season, with often overcast days and pleasantly cool nights. The warmer, rainy season goes from January to April; expect high humidity.
Amazon Basin: The rainforest is, of course, the wettest region of the country with high rainfall throughout the year. It tends to be sunny in the mornings with afternoon downpours and temperatures around 24°C (75°F). Nights are cool in the rainforest, a windbreaker comes in handy.
Climate: Equatorial and mountain-equatorial in general; in the south: subequatorial. Seasonal temperature differences in Ecuador are minimal. In the selva area, in the Amazon basin, it is always hot, humid and rainy. The variety of ecological conditions, climate and altitudes that characterize Ecuador have allowed the cultivation of various crops and the collection of many wild vegetables and fruits since ancient times. Ecuador’s location in the center of the planet allows plants to retain solar energy, which enriches them, and also increases the energy supply in everything that blooms and bears fruit. Almost the entire territory continues “eternal spring”. Academician Charles de la Condamine, contemplating the green panorama of the central valley, wrote: “For the first time I saw flowers, buds, fruits on all trees. I saw plowing, sowing and harvesting on the same day and in the same place “.
